
Blaze open season against two time ArenaBowl champion, San Jose

SALT LAKE CITY - The Arena Football League and the Utah Blaze released the 2006 schedule today. Blaze head coach and general manager DANNY WHITE and his squad will travel to HP Pavilion at San Jose to play the two-time champion San Jose SaberCats on Saturday, January 28 at 8:30 p.m. MT to kick off the inaugural season.
The Blaze will play eight home games at the Delta Center on Friday and Saturday nights, starting on Saturday, February 4 against the Dallas Desperados. Utah is not slated to play any Sunday games during the regular season.
"We have a very competitive schedule for an expansion team," White said. "The Western Division is one of the toughest in the league. We are excited about getting this season started and putting the Blaze on the map immediately."
2006 schedule highlights include:
- Week 2, the Blaze will host former All-Arena QB CLINT DOLEZEL and the JERRY JONES-owned Dallas Desperados in the home opener at Delta Center on February 4.
- Weeks 4 and 11, OS SIAHA BURLEY, WR/DB ORSHAWANTE BRYANT, QB JOE GERMAINE, OL/DL BRYAN HENDERSON, DS KELVIN HUNTER, WR/LB TOM PACE and OL/DL JASON ANDERSEN will face their former team when the Blaze battle the Western-Division rival Arizona Rattlers.
- Week 13, the Blaze will travel to Pepsi Center to battle 2005 Offensive Player of the Year OS DAMIAN HARRELL and NFL Hall of Fame QB JOHN ELWAY's defending ArenaBowl champion Colorado Crush.
- Weeks 9 and 14, the Blaze will face 2004 Offensive Player of the Year OS MARCUS NASH and the Western-Division rival Las Vegas Gladiators.
- Week 16, the Blaze host fellow 2006 expansion team, Kansas City.
