Giroux Earns Performance of the Month Award

Oklahoma City Barons forward Alex Giroux earned reGen Muscle Recovery Beverage/AHL Performance of the Month award for December, the American Hockey League front office announced today.

Giroux, in his first season as a member of the Barons, earned the monthly award for becoming the 44th player in AHL history to record 600 points. He surpassed the 600-point plateau with a second period assist in the Barons game December 18 against San Antonio. The Quebec City native has been among the most consistent scorers in the AHL over the last 10 seasons, potting 614 points (325-289-614) in 676 regular season contests. The two-time Calder Cup Champion has won the AHL's goal-scoring title each of the last two seasons.

Later this month, Giroux will serve as the playing captain for the Western Conference squad in the AHL All Star Classic presented by CapitalBlueCross in Hershey, Pa. Giroux currently rests third in the league and leads the Barons in scoring with 42 points (17-25-42).

Oklahoma City begins a six-city, seven-game road swing with the first of back-to-back games against Peoria tonight and tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. The weekend concludes with a Saturday tilt against San Antonio at the AT&T Center. All games this weekend can be heard on the Barons flagship station, KXY 96.1 FM.
