Gibbons Flirts with No-No, Mets Cruise 10-3

St. Lucie Mets News Release
BRADENTON, Fla. - St. Lucie pitcher Michael Gibbons flirted with a no hitter as the Mets clobbered the Bradenton Marauders 10-3 on Thursday at LECOM Park.
Gibbons had a no-hitter going with one out in the eighth inning. Casey Hughston looped a soft liner towards third base that had Mike Paez sliding to make a catch. The ball ricocheted off Paez and was ruled a hit much to the chagrin of Gibbons, the Mets and the fans.
Gibbons retired the next batter on his 101st pitch and was removed from the game. His final line: 7.2 innings pitched, one hit, one run, one walk and four strikeouts.
The no-hit attempt was the only drama in the game. The Mets built an 8-0 lead through the first three innings.
Quinn Brodey hit a two-run homer in the second inning and then clobbered a three-run homer in the third that broke the game open.
Jeremy Vasquez hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.
For the second straight game, eight of the nine Mets hitters recorded a hit. Vasquez went 3 for 5.
Brodey, Gene Cone and Dan Rizzie had two hits apiece.
The three home runs for the Mets are the most in a game this season. They have hit a homer in five consecutive games and have clubbed 10 long balls in their last five contests.
The Mets (15-23, 42-63) head home to start a three-game series against the Daytona Tortugas on Friday. First pitch at First Data Field is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
