August 2, 2018 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Tampa Tarpons News Release
8/2 Tampa at Clearwater - Game 3 (of three) - Spectrum Field (Clearwater, FL) - 7:00 p.m.
Pitching Matchup: RHP Rony Garcia (0-1, 3.63) vs. RHP Ramon Rosso (2-1, 2.89). Live Audio: TuneIn Radio (Tampa Tarpons Broadcast Network).
LAST NIGHT: All 11 positions players made it into the game as the Tarpons withstood a pair of injuries and defeated the Threshers, 5-2, to even the series at Spectrum Field...After Clearwater scored twice in the first two innings, RHP Adonis Rosa (W, 12-3) retired the final 10 batters he faced over his 5.0IP (3H, 2R/1ER, 0BB, 5K, 69P/44S)...LHP Justin Kamplain (SV, 1) took the baton from Rosa in the 6th and retired the first 10 batters he faced while closing the game with a scoreless 4.0IP (1H, 0BB, 3K)...Tampa grabbed the lead in the 3rd with RBI singles by Diego Castillo (1-for-4, BB, RBI, R, SB) and Isiah Gilliam (1-for-2, 2RBI)...Kellin Deglan added insurance with a two-run homer in the 8th (1-for-2, HR, 2RBI, R).
NOW BATTING, THE PITCHER: Both Gilliam and Hoy Jun Park (0-for-1, BB, SB) left after two plate appearances, causing manager Patrick Osborn to get creative. DH Ben Ruta (1-for-4, SB) was forced to play the field, doing away with the DH and thus creating a pitchers' spot in the lineup. In the top of the 8th, LHP Justin Kamplain stepped to the plate for his first-career plate appearance. Clearwater reliever Grant Dyer missed with four-straight fastballs, walking Kamplain. Deglan followed with a two-run homer, giving Kamplain (0-for-0, BB, R) his first-career run scored.
ROAD WARRIOR: In 11 games (nine starts) away from George M. Steinbrenner Field, RHP Adonis Rosa is 9-0 with a 2.31 ERA (62.1IP, 49H, 20R/16ER, 16BB, 57K, 4HR, 2HB). In comparison, Rosa is 3-3 with a 6.68 ERA in eight games (five starts) at home (33.2IP, 51H, 28R/25ER, 13BB, 32K, 3HR, 2HB).
RUTA'S RAKING: In his last 10 games, Ben Ruta is batting .450 (18-for-40) with 7RBI and nine runs scored. The 24-year-old is currently on a seven-game hitting streak, batting .500 (12-for-24) with eight runs scored in that span.
VS. CLEARWATER: Tonight will be the 11th of 15 games scheduled between the Tampa Tarpons and Clearwater Threshers. Clearwater currently leads the season-series, 6-4. The Tarpons are 1-5 this season at Spectrum Field.
1,000 K CLUB: On Tuesday, the Tarpons' pitching staff became the first to reach 1,000 strikeouts in the Florida State League. Tampa leads the league in strikeouts, totaling 1,009K entering today. That is 97K more than the team ranked second (Clearwater - 912). Tampa is averaging 9.34 K-per-game and is on pace for 1,308K, which would crush its own FSL single-season strikeout record set last season with 1,215K.

Throughout the month of August, each time a strikeout is recorded by a Tampa pitcher, money will be raised for cancer research. The Tarpons are asking fans to donate $1.00 for every time a Tampa pitcher strikes out an opposing batter in the 31 games scheduled for August. To donate, fans must visit www.PledgeIt.com/TampaTarpons.
