Giants Thump Blazers - Sweep the Week

KAMLOOPS BC - Vancouver jumped out to a great start, riding the power play to two first period goals en route to a 6-1 win over the Kamloops Blazers at the Interior Savings Centre.
Jonathon Blum with a rocket from the point would open the scoring for Vancouver. Blum, would collect his own rebound, dance around the sprawled out Alex Rodgers and hammer home his 10th goal of the season at 5:40. Regner would increase the lead to two as he pounced on a juicy rebound deep in the Blazers zone at 18:56, also a power play tally. The Giants would outshoot the Blazers 18-7 in period one.
The domination continued in period two. James Wright would scored a wrap-around goal at 6:39 of period two. Blum would get his second of the game, converting a pretty feed from Mike Piluso at 11:40 to extend the lead to 4-0. Then Garry Nunn would tip home a perfect pass from Neil Manning to put the G-Men up 5-0 through forty minutes. The Giants would again hammer 18 shots on goal while the Blazers would snap eleven on Giants goalie Jamie Tucker.
In the third period, the teams would trade goals. Newly arrived Brady Calla would break Tucker's shutout hopes early in the period, deflecting a Jordan Rowley blast by the keeper at 6:09 for his first since being returned to junior by the Florida Panthers. Brendan Gallagher would wrap up the scoring, intercepting a clearance attempt from the Blazers in their own zone and then collecting his own rebound to beat Blazer net minder Jon Groenheyde for the final goal of the game at 16:20 of the final period.
The Giants would outshoot the Blazers by a 42-29 margin as Jamie Tucker would pick up his seventh win of the season. The Giants were also two for three on the power play while the Blazers would go zero for four against the Giants penalty kill.
The Giants are now 20-1-0-3 on the season, bettering their best ever start as a franchise set back in 2006-07 when the G-Men posted a 20-2-0-2 record after 24 games.
The Giants will have the week off as they prepare for their next game Friday night against the Chilliwack Bruins at the Prospera Centre. You can hear all the action on AM650 with the pregame show at 6:30, followed by the puck drop at 7 p.m.
