Vancouver Giants News Release

VANCOUVER BC - The Vancouver Giants scored four unanswered goals in the second period to come from behind and defeat the Kamloops Blazers 6-4 on Stanley Cup Legends Night at the Pacific Coliseum.

The Giants had a season high crowd of 12,262 take in a great pre-game ceremony featuring Stanley Cup Legends Yvon Cournoyer, Steve Shutt, Gerry Cheevers, Dave Schultz and Johnny Bower. The ceremony also had the Stanley Cup on display and the Giants players and coaching staff wore throwback jerseys and sweaters to recognize the Stanley Cup Champion 1915 Millionaires team.

Vancouver opened the scoring midway through period one as Mikhail Fisenko was able to beat Blazers goalie Justin Leclerc with a wicked wrist shot from about thirty feet out, high glove side. The lead would be short however, as Cole Grbavac, Giffen Nyren and Tyler Shattock would score three goals of their own to give the Blazers a 3-1 lead after one period of play.

The second period would see Vancouver start strong and finish stronger. Four unanswered goals by Casey Pierro-Zabotel, James Wright, James Henry and Lance Bouma would erase the two goal Blazer lead and turn it into a two goal Blazer deficit. Vancouver allowed three goals in the first period, in the second period, they allowed just two shots.

The teams would trade goals in the third, as Craig Cunningham would score his first goal in eight games to extend the lead to 6-3 before Shayne Wiebe would round out the scoring with his 16th of the season.

Since falling to the Chilliwack Bruins on November 11th, the Giants have now reeled off four consecutive wins and see their record climb to 19-1-0-3 on the season.

The Giants will conclude a home and home stand with the Blazers on Saturday night in Kamloops. Pregame show from the Interior Savings Centre will be at 6:30 pm, with puck drop from the 'Loops being at 7 pm.
