Giants Select Brett Olson Eighth Overall in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Giants General Manager Barclay Parneta announced today that the Vancouver Giants have selected 2008-born forward Brett Olson (Spruce Grove, AB) with the eighth overall selection in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.

The 6'2" forward played last season with the St. Albert Raiders U18 AAA, and he scored 13 goals and added 17 assists for 30 points in 35 games. Olson added 6 points in 8 playoff games as well.

"Brett knows where to go and how to play the game, he gets to the hard areas and he has skill," said Giants GM Barclay Parneta. "A lot of the identity and core values that we have, he's certainly shown to us over the course of the year and we think he's going to be a great Vancouver Giant."

Brett Olson is the first Vancouver Giant selected eighth overall since 2014 when the Giants selected Dawson Holt. Recent previous first-round selections from the Giants include:

Jakob Oreskovic (F - 2022)

Aaron Obobaifo (F - 2022)

Cameron Schmidt (F - 2022)

Colton Roberts (D - 2021)

Mazden Leslie (D - 2020)

The Vancouver Giants are next scheduled to make a pick with the 58thoverall selection in the third round.
