Lancaster Stormers News Release

The San Francisco Giants have purchased the contract of left-hander pitcher Matt Reynolds from the Lancaster Barnstormers, it was announced today.

He will report to the Giants' Class AA squad in Richmond of the Eastern League.

Reynolds, 31, appeared in 26 games for the Barnstormers. He posted one win and seven holds with a 1.64 ERA. In 22 innings, the Tennessee resident had allowed only 13 hits and three walks. He struck out 32. Only nine men had reached base in his last 15 1/3 innings of work.

Prior to coming to Lancaster, Reynolds had spent five seasons in the National League with Colorado and Arizona.

He had appeared in 213 games, including a total of 144 between the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

"Matt did what he came here to do," said Barnstormers manager Butch Hobson. "He is a true professional, and we enjoyed our time with him."

Replacing Reynolds on the roster is former Oakland A's left-hander Greg Smith. The Louisiana native had signed with the Barnstormers during the off-season but subsequently agreed to a deal to pitch in Taiwan. He recently returned to the US.

Smith, 32, made 32 starts for Oakland in 2008, going 7-16 with a 4.16 ERA. He also made eight starts for Colorado two years later.

He has pitched in eight different Major League organizations, including a two-year stint with the Philadelphia Phillies. Smith was 9-6 between Reading and Lehigh Valley in 2013 and went 9-11 for Lehigh Valley in 2014. Last season, with Class AAA Gwinnett (Braves), Smith posted a 6-7 record and 2.71 ERA in 119.2 innings of work.
