Skeeters Lose Third Straight In Low Scoring Affair

SUGAR LAND, TEXAS- The Sugar Land Skeeters lost their third straight game 2-0 to the Somerset Patriots on Friday night, bringing them to 30-30 on the season. The Skeeters have 10 games left in the first half of the season and remain 4.5 games back of York for 1st place in the Freedom Division.

Roy Merritt picked up his second loss despite another solid performance on the mound. The left-hander went six innings, giving up two runs on six hits with six strikeouts. Donovan Hand picked up the win, matching Merritt with a solid performance of his own. Hand went six innings, giving up no runs on three hits with five strikeouts.

It was all zeros through the first four innings until Aharon Eggleston's two-run single gave the Patriots a 2-0 lead in the top of the 5th. The Skeeters couldn't get anything going offensively as they were shutout for only the third time this season. Jeremy Barfield extended his hitting streak to nine consecutive games with two outs in the bottom of the 9th. Travis Scott followed by grounding out to short to the end the game, giving Jon Hunton his 14th save of the season.
