Gentile Returned to Aces from AHL

Alaska Aces defenseman Brandon Gentile has been returned to the Aces from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League, Aces Head Coach Rob Murray announced on Tuesday. Gentile was on loan in the AHL for the last two and a half months, and is expected to be in the Aces lineup on Tuesday when the club visits Las Vegas. The Aces magic number to clinch the Brabham Cup and the Western Conference top seed is four points entering Tuesday night. The Aces finish the season on the road this week beginning in Las Vegas on Tuesday and Bakersfield on Wednesday. They then finish the season in Ontario on Friday and Saturday night. Gentile, 24, is in his third pro season and second in Alaska. He appeared in 22 combined games during his AHL loan for Charlotte and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. On January 11, he was loaned to Bridgeport to make his AHL debut. He recorded a goal and four assists in 15 games, while posting a +9 and 13 penalty minutes. He then was picked up by Charlotte, where he played seven games. He had one assist and four penalty minutes, finishing -7. Prior to his trip to the AHL Gentile had 12 points (2g, 10a) in 33 games this season, with a +12 while and 53 penalty minutes. At the time of his loan to Bridgeport, he ranked third in defenseman scoring, and third on the team overall in PIM. The 6'0", 196 lbs. defenseman is a physical force for Alaska as one of the team's biggest hitters. He appeared in 40 regular season games last year, missing a lengthy stretch during the middle of the year with an injury. Gentile had 8 points (2g, 6a) in the regular season, and appeared in 11 more post-season games.

Prior to coming to Alaska, the Clarkston, MI native played for the Flint Generals of the IHL, where he led all Generals defensemen in scoring. Gentile has made a habit of being a part of championship teams in his playing career. He captured his first professional championship with the Aces last season, and has reached the finals in both seasons as a pro. Before turning pro, Gentile won an NCAA National Championship in 2008 with Michigan State University. He was also a member of the 2005 USA U-18 IIHF World Championship team.

In an additional roster move the Aces placed defenseman Steve Ward on the 3-day IR. Alaska also waived goaltender Shane Owen who went 0-1-1 in two games for Alaska posting a 2.93 GAA and a .854 save percentage. Earlier this week the Aces signed rookie forward Tim Hall to a standard contract after initially signing him to an ATO.
