Oshawa Generals News Release

Kitchener, Ontario - The Generals are winning and they're doing it in spades! Oshawa reeled off their 5th straight win vs. the Rangers in Kitchener Friday night. They won 6-3 before a massive crowd of 6,554 at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium. Sebastian Uvira and Andy Andreoff each scored twice. Christian Thomas, Lucas Lessio, Scott Laughton and Colin Suellentrop all had multi-point efforts in the win. The victory makes Oshawa .500 on the season, and they remain undefeated in 2012.

The first period was played at a torrid pace. It was defined by tape to tape passes and quick puck movement.

Daniel Altshuller was a calm, dependable presence in Oshawa's net and made 11 saves in the opening frame. The Generals goaltender shut down Tobias Rieder by using a strong paddle to hold the goal line. Altshuller exhibited excellent rebound control and alleviated any Ranger offensive pressure by freezing the puck.

The Generals played a physical but disciplined period. Scott Sabourin packed more crunch than a chiropractor as he punished Rangers in the neutral zone.

The stage was set for Sebastian Uvira at 14:11. Christian Thomas set up a screen, and Uvira whipped a backhand from the high slot. The puck slipped past Rangers goaltender, Franky Palazzese, and went in, just inside the right post. The Generals led 1-0.

Minutes later, Oshawa's potent power play powered the Gens to a 2-0 lead. From under siege in the slot, Scott Laughton found Andy Andreoff who was all alone to the right of the net. Palazzese couldn't get across to meet Andreoff's blast, and just like that, Oshawa was up by 2.

Kitchener cut into Oshawa's lead moments later. Rangers Captain, Michael Catenacci, teed off from the slot and caught Altshuller moving from post to post. The shot beat Altshuller short side and gave Kitchener life on the scoreboard. Still, Oshawa was up 2-1 on the road heading into the second period.

In the second, the Rangers managed to temporarily draw even at 2. After that, it was all Generals: the Red, Blue and White scored 3 goals in a row.

First, Uvira drove to the net and buried his second of the night, a one-timer on a hard cross-feed from Thomas.

With the lead restored, Oshawa went to work and sustained offensive pressure by intercepting a Kitchener clearing attempt. On the ensuing play, Lucas Lessio found Laughton who hammered home a goal very similar to Andreoff's first period marker.

Thomas added salt to Kitchener's wounds scoring his 17th of the season on the power play at 16:38. In typical Thomas fashion, #27 bombed a one-timer from the top of the left circle. The blast bounced Palazzese from the game and put the Generals up 5-2.

The second period wasn't all good news for Oshawa. Brent Pederson clawed the Rangers back to within 2, scoring a blocker side laser with just 4 seconds remaining. Heading into the third, Oshawa led 5-3 needing one more period of solid hockey to keep their winning streak alive.

Any chance of a Kitchener comeback was shattered at 5:56 of the third. Andreoff deflated the Rangers bench when he used Kyle Hope as a decoy before powering a wrist shot that beat Rangers goaltender, Jack Moylan, glove side.

Up 6-3, Oshawa's defensive zone coverage cracked down and suffocated Kitchener's attack the rest of the way.

Oshawa outshot Kitchener 46-38. Altshuller made 35 saves in his 5th consecutive backstopping victory.

Oshawa's road trip wraps up this Sunday January 8th when the Generals battle the Battalion in Brampton. Faceoff is set for 2:00 PM, and the game can be seen live on Rogers TV Durham.

Catch the Generals live and in person on Friday January 13th when they return home to take on the Brampton Battalion at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa. It's the back end of a home-and-home series that starts at 7:35 PM. See you there!
