Kitchener Rangers News Release

The Oshawa Generals won their fifth in a row 6-3 over the Kitchener Rangers Friday night. Michael Catenacci scored a goal and an assist for the Rangers.

Oshawa jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first two goals of the opening frame. First on the score sheet was rookie import Sebastian Uvira with an unassisted effort at 14:11, his sixth goal of the season. Just over two minutes later, fifth year winger Andy Andreoff capitalized on the power play, firing a puck past Franky Palazzese to give the Generals a 2-0 advantage. Assisting on Andreoff's 14th of the season were Scott Laughton and Christian Thomas.

The Rangers would respond just 22 seconds later, cutting the lead in half. Michael Catenacci on the receiving end of a crisp pass from Ryan Murphy launched a shot by Oshawa netminder Daniel Altshuller. The captain has scored at least once in four straight games.

Oshawa out-shot Kitchener 14-12 through 20 minutes of play.

The Rangers began the second period on the man-advantage and quickly went to work. 55 seconds in, third year centre Andrew Crescenzi picked up his eleventh of the season, extending his point-streak to three games. Catenacci assisted on the play, giving him multiple points in back-to-back contests. Matia Marcantuoni was also credited with a helper.

Uvira would put the Generals back in front, sliding the puck through the five-hole of Palazzese with 12 minutes to play in the second. His second goal of the game was assisted by Thomas and Kyle Hope, who has two goals and four assists in his last four games.

With five minutes left to play Lucas Lessio got the puck to the net before finding Laughton with a cross crease pass. The sophomore centre dumped it in the open side of the net to put Oshawa up 4-2. His eighth of the season was also assisted by Colin Suellentrop.

Just over a minute and a half later, the Generals stretched their lead to three. Christian Thomas's fourth goal in five games came on the power play. Andreoff and Lessio were each credited with their second assists of the game.

That would be the end of the night for Palazzese, who stopped 18-of-23 shots before being relieved by Jack Moylan. The rookie made his OHL debut, after being picked by the Rangers in the 11th round of the 2011 Priority Selection.

Brent Pedersen closed the gap to two with just four seconds left in the period, firing a high shot past Altshuller. The rookie's seventh goal of the year came in his first game since returning from a bronze medal performance with Team Ontario at the World U17 Hockey Challenge in Windsor. Assisting on the goal were Eric Ming and Cody Sol.

Oshawa continued to lead shots on goal with a 17-15 advantage in the second frame.

The Generals re-established their three goal lead six minutes into the final period. Andy Andreoff beat Moylan high glove-side for his second of the game. The veteran is riding a five-game point streak, with three goals and nine assists over that stretch. Scott Sabourin and Suellentrop picked up assists on the play.

Oshawa out-shot the Rangers 15-11 in the third, finishing with a 46-38 overall advantage. Moylan stopped 22-of-23 shots in his Rangers' debut.

The teams complete their season series with one win apiece. The Rangers' record is now 25-11-1-0 while the Generals' fifth straight win improves them to 18-18-1-3.
