Majors Announce Trade with Sarnia

MISSISSAUGA - Mississauga St. Michael's Majors Head Coach and General Manager James Boyd announced a trade with the Sarnia Sting on Friday, acquiring goaltender Brandon Maxwell, three second round draft picks (GUE '12, NIA '13, PBO '14), and two fifth round draft picks (SAR '14, SAR '15) in exchange for goaltender JP Anderson.

Maxwell, a 20-year-old from Cambridge, Ontario is in his third season in the OHL with a 17-12-1-2 record and one shutout (3.23 GAA, 0.899 SV%) through 32 games played this season. Prior to becoming a member of the Sting, he played his first two seasons with the Kitchener Rangers, compiling a 57-39-8-4 record with two shutouts over those two seasons during both regular season and playoffs. He was selected in the 6th round (154th overall) by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Anderson, a 19-year-old from Toronto, Ontario is in his fourth OHL season - all with the Majors - and posts a 15-11-1-3 record this season with a 3.04 GAA and a .910 SV%. His all-time record through regular season and playoffs with the Majors is 116-56-6-4, which includes a 15-2-3 record with four shutouts during the Majors Eastern Conference championship and seven game OHL final versus the Owen Sound Attack, as well as their appearance in the 2011 Mastercard Memorial Cup.

Anderson leaves the Majors with records for most shutouts in a regular season (six in 2010-11), most wins in a regular season (38 in 2010-11), best career goals against average as a Major (2.67), and most career regular season wins as a Major (88). Anderson was signed as a free agent to the San Jose Sharks on September 21, 2010.

"I cannot say enough about the contribution that JP Anderson has made to this franchise in the past few seasons," Boyd said. "He was an integral part of our team and helped us achieve one of the greatest seasons in Majors history last year as we advanced to the OHL Finals and the Memorial Cup.

"He has been one of the best goaltenders in all of junior hockey in his time here and holds the franchise record for most career wins. He has been an exemplary player and person both off and on the ice and has represented our franchise with tremendous distinction.

"This deal allows us to move forward as a franchise by replenishing draft picks we had dealt last year in our championship run, and the value we received in return for him speaks volume about his ability and character. We offer JP nothing but the best of wishes as he continues what we know will be a long and successful career in hockey."

The Majors and the Sting will meet one more time during the regular season as Mississauga travels to Sarnia on Friday, January 13th for a 7 p.m. start.
