Mississippi Braves News Release

Jackson, TN - For the second straight night at Pringles Park, the Jackson Generals downed the Mississippi Braves by a final score of 5-3 to take the series three games to two.

Both Andrew Carraway for the Generals and Jose Lugo for the Braves were efficient early, taking no-hitters into the third, but Jackson got to Lugo in the fourth inning. Francisco Martinez started a string of four straight batters to reach with his one-out single, and each eventually came in to score to put the Generals ahead 4-0.

The Braves (18-22, 43-67) would trail by that margin until the seventh inning, when the first three reached to load the bases against Carraway. Two batters later, on a 1-2 pitch, Matt Kennelly went the opposite way for a double into the right field corner, clearing the bases and pulling Mississippi to within one. Antoan Richardson then singled to put runners on the corners, but reliever Bobby LaFromboise got Mycal Jones to ground into an inning-ending double play to end the Braves threat and strand the tying run.

Jackson (17-23, 55-55) would post an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh behind an RBI single by Martinez, and win by that final score of 5-3.

Lugo takes the loss, his third of the season. He allowed five runs on 11 hits over seven innings. Carraway earned his eighth win of the season for Jackson, while Stephen Pryor earned his first double-A save.

The Braves now return home to Trustmark Park to begin a five-game series with the Cincinnati Reds' double-A affiliate, the Carolina Mudcats. Game one begins Friday night at 7:05 PM CDT. Chris Cody makes his Mississippi Braves debut, taking on the Mudcats' Josh Ravin.
