HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Huntsville Stars (55-54) led the entire game in a slugfest but could not hold on in the ninth inning as they lost 7-6 to the Carolina Mudcats (41-68).

Brock Kjeldgaard hit a three-run bomb, his second home run at the Double-A level, to give the Stars some early run support. Hainley Statia and Lee Haydel continued to produce as well, each with a multi-hit game and scoring a combined three runs for the Stars.

The Mudcats hung around thanks to two home runs by Neftali Soto, who had four RBIs in the game.

Robert Wooten (3-2) gave up a pair of doubles in the ninth for his second blown save of the season after Dan Merklinger left the game in the sixth. The Stars were leading when Merklinger left the game despite allowing five runs to score.

Chris Mobley picked up the win in two scoreless innings of relief. Donnie Joseph grabbed the save, closing the game with a one-two-three ninth.

The series is now tied at 2-2 with the rubber match on Thirst-Aid Thursday with $2 drafts until the seventh inning. RHP Cody Scarpetta (7-5, 4.12 ERA) will take the mound for the Stars. For more information, call (256) 882-2562 or visit huntsvillestars.com.
