Oshawa Generals News Release

The Eastern Conference leading Generals were back on home ice Sunday night wrapping up a three-in-three against the Windsor Spitfires.

An evenly matched first period saw the shots in favour of Windsor 15-11. Oshawa was awarded the only power-play of the period, which they spent buzzing around goaltender Alex Fotinos, however none of their attempts could find the back of the net.

It was Windsor who struck first. Nikita Yazkov got the Spitfires on the board with his second goal of the season, bringing the score to 1-0 at the end of the first period.

Oshawa was penalized early in the second period, which sent the Generals to a big kill. Daniel Altshuller was a brick wall standing on his head to keep it a one goal game. After killing off the penalty, Windsor's Ryan Moore was sprung on a break-away. He wasted little time rushing up the ice, slipping the Spitfires second of the night in five-hole.

Scott Laughton got a break-away of his own, but was hauled down before finishing. Laughton was awarded a penalty shot in front of the 4,867 cheering home fans, but his attempt could not get the Generals on the scoreboard.

A glimmer of hope came in the form of Sam Harding who buried his second of the season to cut Windsor's lead to 2-1 nearing the end of the second period.

The third period featured penalty troubles for the Generals. It started with a penalty to Laughton for boarding at the end of the second period, and was capped with a five minute charging penalty to Hunter Smith that saw him ejected for the remainder of the game. Being down a man didn't faze the Generals however; they killed off both penalties and kept the score at 2-1.

The score remained 2-1 until the last two minutes of the third period when Oshawa pulled goaltender Daniel Altshuller, and Windsor capitalized with two empty net goals to bring the final score to 4-1.

Oshawa is on the road Friday when they travel to Kingston to face the Frontenacs, before heading back home to host the Barrie Colts on Sunday afternoon for a 2:05 puck drop.
