
Spitfires' Alex Fotinos Named OHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON - The Ontario Hockey League today announced that goaltender Alex Fotinos of the Windsor Spitfires is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 17 after posting a 3-0-0-0 record including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.67 and save percentage of .951.
Fotinos becomes the third straight goaltender to earn the weekly honour after backstopping the Spitfires to three straight wins including two on the road helping lift the club into second place in the West Division standings with a 14-7-0-0 record. Fotinos stopped 97 shots last week beginning Thursday night with a season-high 37-save performance picking up his second career shutout and first of the season earning second star honours in the 6-0 win over the Mississauga Steelheads. On Saturday night he made 30 saves in a 5-4 win over the Peterborough Petes, then closed the week with another 30 saves on Sunday including a second period penalty shot against Scott Laughton to help the Spits preserve a 4-1 win over the Oshawa Generals.
Fotinos, an 18-year-old from Toronto, ON, is playing in his third OHL season. Originally selected by the Barrie Colts in the second round of the 2011 OHL Priority Selection, Fotinos carries a perfect 9-0-0-0 record this season including six victories with the Spitfires since he was acquired in mid October. He also holds a goals-against-average of 2.90 and save percentage of .904 this season.
Also considered for the award this week was Erie Otters' sniper Dane Fox who led the league with seven points in three games scoring twice with five assists, while Spitfires' rookie Ryan Foss scored five goals in three games including his first career hat-trick.
