Dayton Gems News Release

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Gems professional hockey team, members of the Central Hockey League, are proud to announce that the team's mascot "Blade" will be participating in the upcoming MDA Lock Up fundraiser this Wednesday at the Fricker's restaurant in Vandalia.

The fundraiser goal, or "bail", set by MDA is $2,400, and the money raised to release Blade will go towards sending local Miami Valley children to the MDA summer camp in 2012, as well as providing the much needed services for those afflicted with the disease right here in the region.

A prominent fixture in the Dayton community, Blade and the Gems were enlisted by the local MDA to help spread the word on the fight against Muscular Dystrophy as well as to help raise funds for Jerry's Kids. On his impending lockup, Blade was quoted as saying "Did you hear the news...they finally caught me! I'm going to jail...but it's for a great cause...MDA!"

Fans who would like to donate to Blade's bail can contribute any amount through the MDA's secure online donation site set up just for Blade at * https://www.joinmda.org/vandalia2011/jt* or by clicking on the MDA Lock Up button on www.DaytonGems.com through Wednesday.

The Gems return to action this Thursday night when they host the Bloomington Blaze on Cassano's Italian Ice inside the historic Hara Arena at 7pm. Thursday night's game is the first "Thirsty Thursday" of the season, and features the return of dollar beer night and introduces the first Gems stadium cup giveaway. Tickets are now available by calling the Gems ticket office at 275-7777 or by visiting www.DaytonGems.com .
