Tulsa Oilers News Release
Weekend Recap: Tulsa played three games in three days and came out of the weekend with a 2-1 record. The Oilers fell 6-3 at Missouri on Friday night but bounced back with a 6-2 win at home over Quad City on Saturday. Gary Steffes scored twice against the Mallards and David Solway chipped in three assists as the Oilers equaled their highest offensive output of the season. On Sunday afternoon, Tulsa trailed by one after two periods but the Oilers got third period goals from Solway and Steffes to complete a comeback and beat Wichita 4-3. Tulsa evened the season series with the Thunder at a game apiece and handed Wichita just its second regulation loss of the season. It was the second third period rally of the season for the Oilers who scored two goals in the final frame for a win over Texas on October 29th. The Oilers have now won back to back games for the first time since starting the season 2-0.
A Heavy Dose of Thunder: The Oilers and Thunder will be very well acquainted with each other over the next couple weeks. The Oilers will play Wichita four more times in the month of November and five of Tulsa's next seven games are against the Thunder. After this stretch, the two regional rivals will only face off three more times before the end of the regular season. Both meetings so far have been played at the BOK Center with each team holding a victory and Wichita with a 9-6 edge in goals scored.
Lucky Luke: Plain and simple, good things happen for the Oilers when Luke Lucyk is on the ice. The defenseman from Fox Point, Wisconsin leads the team and is third in the CHL with a +9 rating. Lucyk, now in his second season with the Oilers, scored his second goal of the season against Quad City on Saturday and has only finished one game this season with a minus next to his name on the score sheet.
These Guys Can Play: The Oilers roster has undergone several changes already, but each new player Bruce Ramsay plugs in is finding a way to contribute. Ro okie defenseman Derek Foam is +8 in his first eight CHL games and registered his first professional point Friday night with an assist against Missouri. After starting the season on injured reserve, forward Gerome Giudice already has a goal and an assist in his first two games. The newest Oiler, forward David Solway, scored his first pro goal Tuesday against Rapid City and chipped in three assists in Saturday's win over Quad City.
Top Rookies on Same Line: Oilers forwards and linemates, Mike Ullrich and Dylan Clarke, are tied for the lead among CHL rookies with 11 points. Ullrich, has six goals and five assists on the year while Clarke has scored three times and registered eight assists. Ullrich, a 25-year old out of Banff, Alberta, had his six game point streak snapped against Quad City on Saturday but came right back with an assist on Sunday against Wichita. A native of Belleville, Ontario, Clarke leads the Oilers in assists and shots on goal. The 25-year old ended his seven game point streak on Sunday, but has still scored at least one point in eight of the 11 games played this season.
Upcoming Games: The Oilers get a few days off before starting a stretch of six games in nine days.
