Gators outscore Texas 8-7

Beaumont, TX - The Louisiana IceGators snapped a six game losing streak, as the team scored a season high 8 goals en route to a 8-7 victory over the Texas Wildcatters, Friday night in Beaumont.

A wild first period resulted in six total goals and a 4-2 IceGators lead. Texas jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the game was two minutes old as Kamil Kreps (2) scored just 14 seconds in to the game, followed by a Terry Marchant (8) lamp lighter at 1:42. The next four goals n the period would belong to Todd Gordon's club.At 5:18, on the power play, Patrik Nilson fed a centering pass to Mark Rooneem, the rookie went high on Phil Osaer for his 12th of the season and a 2-1 deficit. It was the 4th game in a row that Rooneem has scored a goal. Immediately back on the power play, the Gators scored again at 6:42 when Max Fortunus(5) sent a one timer from the high slot over the glove of Osaer into the twine for a tie game. The Gators took the lead at 14:10, when off a scramble in the slot, Pascal Pelletier picked up the puck at the right circle and snapped the biscuit home for his 6th of the year. Fortunus finished the 1st period scoring at 18:22, when his slap shot from the blue line went five-hole for his second tally of the night and 6th of the season. Jade Galbraith had assists on 3 of the 4 Gator goals in period number one.

Six more goals were scored in the 2nd period as each team lit the lamp three times. Rob Globke (3) opened the scoring at :27 to bring the Wildcatters within one. But at 4:17, Mark Rooneem scored his 2nd of the game on wrist shot from the slot. Texas answered on a tap in by Globke (4) at 9:08. Just 14 seconds later, the Gators took the two goal lead back when Wes Mason centered the puck to wide open Chris Thompson for the tap in, his 11th of the year and a 6-4 lead. Brian Stacey scored at 12:11, as the defenseman was left wide open in front of a defenseless Nathan Marsters. The Gators made it 7-5 after 40 minutes when Jade Galbraith scored on a breakaway, going backhand on Osaer for his 9th of the season at 16:03.

Randy Dagenais (9) scored on a wrist shot from the right circle at 1:23 of the 3rd for what turned out to be the game winner. The Wildcatters made it close on goals by Globke (5), for the hat trick, at 2:27 and a power play goal by Marchant(9) at 18:23 to make the final score 8-7.Max Fortunus made the defensive play of the game, clearing the puck from crossing the goal after a shot by Marchant got by Marsters with under 10 seconds to play. With the win, Louisiana's record is now 17-23-3, 37 points and 5th place in the South. The Gators were outshot by Texas 44-25. Power plays were 2-3 for the Gators and 1-2 for the Wildcatters. The Gators next game is a week away, on Friday night, February 11, when Louisiana travels east to meet the Columbia Inferno at 6:35pm.
