San Diego Trips Up Chiefs in Shootout

Johnstown, PA- The Johnstown Chiefs surrendered a two goal lead in the third period Saturday night to the San Diego Gulls and would eventually would fall in a shootout 3-2 at the War Memorial Arena.

Shawn Mather got the Chiefs on the board in the first period with his team leading 15th goal of the season at 13:51. The Chiefs would grab a 2-0 lead at 6:14 when Chad Cavanagh took a Dmitri Tarabrin cross ice past and tipped it by San Diego netminder Eddy Ferhi (30 saves).

San Diego's Guilliaume Fournier scored both the Gulls goals in the final frame 2:51 just apart. Chiefs goaltender David Currie made 28 saves in the contest.

The Gulls shutout the Chiefs 2-0 in the shootout with goals by Fournier and locked out NHLer Curtis Brown. The Chiefs are now 15-14-11. The Gulls improve to 23-15-5.

Tomorrow when the Chiefs host the Peoria Rivermen at 1:00 p.m. is another Heluva Good Quality Foods Kid's Sunday. All children's tickets (ages 12 and under) are just $1. Following the game there will be a "Skate With the Chiefs," and autograph session with the entire team. Saturday, February 19th is the next designated sellout night sponsored by "Your Neighborhood Ford Store," when the Chiefs host the Dayton Bombers at 7:00 p.m. George "The Animal" Steele will be in attendance. "The Animal" will be signing autographs and available for pictures, sponsored by Aarons Sales and Lease.
