
Gateway Offense Powers Past Freedom

Sauget, Illinois: The Gateway Grizzlies celebrated their 1 millionth fan last night at GCS Ballpark, that fan and the other 5,447 fans had a lot to cheer about. The Gateway power machine slammed five homeruns in an 11-7 victory over Florence.
The Freedom held a 5-3 lead at the end of the third, but the Gateway attack scored four in the fourth and three in the fifth to stretch the game to 10-5. Florence sent the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth, but Ryan Basham popped out to the second baseman.
Joe Holland powered the Freedom offense, he went 2-5 with a double, homerun, two RBI, and a run scored. J.D. Foust went 2-4 with three runs scored while batting third. Josh Lex went 1-3 with three RBI, and Nick Salotti went 1-2 with a double, RBI, and a run scored.
The Freedom dropped two of three at Gateway, but still gained a game on a Washington in the overall three game set. Washington was swept at home by Rockford. The Freedom now lie four and a half games out of first place. Florence will now head out on the second half of their roadtrip, just down the road to O'Fallon, Missouri to take on the River City Rascals in a three game set. The Freedom return home to Champion Window Field on Sunday.
