Garrett's Walk-Off Wins Series Opener for Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Stone Garrett's walk-off single banked the series opener for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 2-1 over the Biloxi Shuckers in front of 7,116 fans at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. Robert Fans enjoyed Vice Night and a special postgame fireworks show presented by 121 Financial and Darley's Plumbing.

The score was tied at one in the ninth inning when Justin Twine tripled against Biloxi (17-19) reliever Devin Williams (5-2) to lead off. Garrett followed with a single off the wall in left to give Jacksonville (13-23) a 2-1 win.

Jumbo Shrimp starter Cody Poteet pitched seven strong innings, scattering seven hits and striking out five. Parker Bugg, Jeff Kinley and Brett Graves (1-0) combined for two scoreless frames of relief.

Weston Wilson homered in the top of the second against Poteet for the only run of the game for the Shuckers.

In the bottom of the second, John Silviano crushed a solo shot of his own to even the score at one.

Saturday's winning raffle number of 1219042005 won a prize of $302.

Jacksonville hosts Biloxi at 3:05 p.m. on Sunday from the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. LHP Mackenzie Mills (1-5, 4.50 ERA) makes the start for the Jumbo Shrimp against Shuckers RHP Johan Belisario (1-0, 2.95 ERA). Gates open at 2 p.m. on Sunday for a Baptist Health Sunday Family FUNday. Families are welcome to play catch on the field before the game, plus Jumbo Shrimp players will be signing autographs. Each Sunday also features free face painting, balloon animals and popular kids show and movie characters roaming the park. Elmo will be around on Sunday at the Baseball Grounds. On Mother's Day, fans can enjoy a very special day with $5 Raspberry Sunrise Mimosas at the Budweiser Tiki Terrace and Wheelhouse Lounge. In addition, 25 oz. Corona cans will be available for $5. After the game, all moms in attendance are invited to run the bases with all kids ages 12 and under.
