January 7, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas, NV - The Las Vegas Wranglers and the ECHL announced today that Las Vegas Wranglers Equipment Manager Brian Garcia and Athletic Trainer Scott McLay have been selected to work the 2009 ECHL All Star Game presented by Gaurdian Wear.
The Reading Royals, the City of Reading and the Sovereign Center will host the 17th Annual ECHL All-Star Game on Jan. 21, 2009 and the 12th Annual All-Star Skills Competition on Jan. 20, 2009.
The equipment managers are Jason MacDonald of the Florida Everblades for the host American Conference and Brian Garcia of the Las Vegas Wranglers for the National Conference while the athletic trainers are Mike Bronstein of the Trenton Devils for the American Conference and Scott McLay for the National Conference. Reading equipment manager Pat Noecker will be working his second straight All-Star Game while Royals athletic trainer Brian Grogesky will be working his third All-Star contest.
McLay is in his second season with Las Vegas after working two years for Terrio Therapy-Fitness in Bakersfield where his clients included the Bakersfield Condors. The 33-year old was awarded his master's degree in sports management from Webber International University and his bachelor's degree from Lake Superior State University.
Garcia is in his fourth season with the Wranglers after spending four years as an assistant equipment manager with Long Beach of the ECHL. Before joining the Ice Dogs he spent seven years working in the family business, inspecting high-rise window-washing equipment for certification.
Former ECHL athletic trainers working in the NHL include Chris Stewart and Scott Adams with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Myles Hirayama with the Los Angeles Kings, Dave Zeis with the Dallas Stars and Andy Hosler with the Nashville Predators. Former ECHL equipment managers who are working in the NHL are Scott Allegrino, Rick Bronwell, Jeff Camelio, Dana Heinze, and Russ Holden, who worked the ECHL All-Star Game in 2005.
There have been four coaches and 46 players from the All-Star Game who have advanced to the National Hockey League. Twenty-nine players from the All-Star Game have gone on to play in the NHL since 2002 when the lineups began having players who coaches felt were prospects to move up to a higher level.
The Stanley Cup and the Patrick J. Kelly Cup will both be on display throughout the event, marking the ninth time in the last 10 years that the NHL championship trophy and the ECHL championship trophy have been displayed together at the All-Star Game.
Las Vegas will play in Utah next Friday and Saturday at 6:05 PM (PST).
