York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution defeated the Camden Riversharks 4-1 Wednesday night in front of 2,487 fans at Campbell's Field in Camden, New Jersey. York was led by starter Shaun Garceau who pitched a career high 8.1 innings, coming within two outs of just the second complete game shutout in club history. Garceau was masterful as he only allowed six hits while walking none and fanning five. The Revs offense was also hot all night as eight of their nine starters all collected hits to help score their four runs. With the win, the Revs have moved within a half a game of Lancaster for 1st place in the Freedom Division. The series finale will be played at 7:05 p.m. Thursday night at Campbell's field.
The Revolution got things going in the top of the third inning to take a 3-0 lead over the Riversharks. C Octavio Martinez led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch and proceeded to third on a bunt single by CF Chris Walker and a throwing error by Camden 3B Lloyd Turner. Martinez came on to score on an errant pickoff throw from pitcher Federico Baez. The next batter, RF Carlos Guzman, slapped a single to left and then a wild pitch moved both runners to second and third. SS Ramon Castro smacked a sacrifice fly to center field plating Walker. LF James Shanks knocked a single to center to score Guzman for the final run of the inning.
York increased their lead in the top of the eighth inning as 1B Chris Nowak blasted his 15th home run of the season over the left field wall giving the Revs a 4-0 advantage.
Garceau earned the win (3-5) as he flirted with the first nine-inning complete game of his career, and became the second Revs pitcher this season to come within two outs of a shutout.
Baez took the loss (6-5) giving up three runs in six innings of work off of seven hits while striking out four.
Revs starter Corey Thurman (9-3, 3.57) will take the mound in the series finale against Camden's lefty Wilkin De la Rosa, making his first appearance of the season in Thursday night's match-up at Campbell's Field starting at 7:05 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350 and Shoutcast.com (WPDC) beginning at 6:30 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
Notes: Garceau has allowed only a combined five runs in his four starts since re-joining the rotation. Garceau has a 1.72 ERA in his last four starts striking out 22 in 26.2 innings pitched. Garceau has also walked two or fewer in 10 of his 15 starts. Martinez was hit by a pitch twice in the game. York improves to 9-2 against the Riversharks in the season series. Nowak now has hit 10 home runs since July 10 (26 games), with three of them coming in the last four games. SS Eric Eymann has extended his hitting streak to six games.
