Long Island Ducks News Release

(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 10, 2011) - Long Island Ducks team officials today announced that the contract of pitcher Shane Youman has been purchased by the Lamigo Monkeys of the Chinese Professional Baseball League in Taiwan. He becomes the fourth Duck in 2011 to be signed by another organization (Mike Parisi, Dodgers; Lenny DiNardo, Athletics; and Valerio de los Santos, Mexico).

"Shane was a true professional both on and off the field," says Ducks manager Kevin Baez. "We wish him the best of luck in Taiwan, and he will surely be missed in our clubhouse."

Youman was spectacular on Long Island, as he posted a 7-1 record with a miniscule 0.66 ERA in 13 games (seven starts). The left-hander struck out 46 batters while only walking nine in 54 and one-third innings pitched. He also had not allowed a run in his last 13 innings pitched and only allowed runs in two of his 13 appearances in a Duck uniform.

The Louisiana native spent six seasons in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, reaching the Major Leagues in both 2006 and 2007 and pitching in 21 games. While in the Atlantic League, Youman also pitched for the York Revolution, Newark Bears, Bridgeport Bluefish, and Lancaster Barnstormers. Youman was drafted by the Pirates in the 43rd round of the 2001 amateur draft.

The Long Island Ducks are in their 12th season of play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at Bethpage Ballpark in Central Islip, N.Y. Individual game tickets for the regular season are on sale now by calling 631-940-TIXX, by visiting the Bethpage Ballpark Box Office, or by logging on to www.liducks.com and clicking on the tickets icon.
