Tri-City Storm News Release

KEARNEY, Neb. - The Tri-City Storm ended their preseason on a high note with a 5-4 victory over the Omaha Lancers in overtime at the Moylan-Tranquility Iceplex on Friday night.

Forward Garrett Gamez was the hero, scoring with 23 seconds left in the extra period. The Storm also received goals from Joel L'Esperance, Thomas Delaney, Tory Dello, and Dan Labosky in the win.

Tri-City got ahead in the first when L'Esperance found the back of the net on a pass from Gamez. Robbie Payne also factored into the play, picking up the second assist.

The Storm widened their lead in the second with two quick tallies in under a minute from blueliners. First, Delaney beat Omaha goaltender Cole Bruns with a backhanded shot up high on a pass from forward Nolan Aibel.

Just 40 seconds later, Dello took a pass from fellow d-man Garrett Cecere and fired a shot past Bruns for his first goal of the preseason to make it 3-0 Storm.

The Lancers tied the game in the third, scoring three consecutive goals and getting themselves back into the contest.

But the Storm were relentless in their pursuit of victory, battling back to take the lead. Omaha native Chris Wilkie hit Labosky in front for a one-timer that made it 4-3.

After Omaha forward Gage Hough tied the game, the teams went to a five minute, 3-on-3 overtime session.

In the overtime Wilkie was awarded a penalty shot and Labosky found room for a breakaway chance, but both players couldn't convert on their opportunities.

Gamez finally ended the game, taking a pass from Chase McMurphy and winding up for a big slapshot which found its way past Bruns.

Jacob Johansson picked up the win in net for Tri-City, making 33 saves on 37 shots.

The Storm will face the Lincoln Stars next Saturday, Sept. 28 to get the regular season under way at the Viaero Event Center. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will be treated to a free pregame barbeque, and all fans in attendance can witness a fireworks show at the conclusion of the contest, presented by Viaero Wireless.
