Playoff Picture
Tonight's game features two teams trying to claw their way into the playoffs - the Mavericks two points back of fourth-place Kalamazoo in the Central and Allen on the wrong side of a tie break with Tulsa for the final spot in the Mountain Division. Kansas City needs to do three points better than the Wings the rest of the way as Kalamazoo owns the tie break for more regulation and overtime wins (32-29) while Allen needs just one more point than the Oilers, who have won two straight and have recorded points in eight of their last 10 games.
Carlson Called Up
Adam Carlson had been a key player in the Mavericks' resurgence from a down February, leading the team to at least one point in his last seven starts prior to being reassigned by the Washington Capitals to AHL Hershey on Thursday. Carlson's play was steady and strong throughout the run, running up a .933 Save Percentage and 1.82 Goals Against Average with one shutout in that seven-game span.
VanWormer's Run
Jared VanWormer has the hot hand for the Mavericks on the offensive end, having recorded eight points (3G+5A) over the team's last three games. The Ferris State product leads all ECHL rookies with 11 power play goals on the campaign, accounting for more than a quarter of the Mavericks' scores on the man-advantage this season. Since the addition of Corey Durocher to the Mavericks' roster and the inception of the Durocher-Mark Cooper-VanWormer line, the rookie has tallied 17 points (8G+9A) in 14 games.
Pauly Streaking
Shawn Pauly became the first Maverick to reach 20 goals for the season with a multi-goal game against Quad City on Sunday and enters Friday's game with three goals over the last two contests and six over the last six. The Bellingham, Washington native has two hat tricks on the year, the only two for the Mavericks, while providing a newfound scoring touch in his second pro season.
Against Allen
The Mavericks have gotten the better of their Lone Star State rivals so far this season, entering Friday with a record of 4-2 against the Americans on the year. KC split two pairs of games in December and most recently swept the Americans in February at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena to push its win streak over Allen to three games. Bryce Aneloski and Mark Cooper have done the heavy lifting on the offensive end against Allen, each entering tonight's game with six points in six games against the traditional rival.
