INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - The Kansas City Mavericks (32-29-2-2) dropped the front end of a Friday-Saturday twin bill at Allen, falling to the Americans (32-26-5-2) by a 3-2 final score at Allen Event Center.

The Americans jumped on top in the first, scoring twice in the final six minutes to take a 2-0 lead into the locker room at intermission with goals from Eric Roy and Alex Guptill. The Mavericks owned the advantage in shots on goal in the opening 20, heading into intermission with a 12-9 advantage.

J.C. Campagna extended the home team's cushion to three goals at the 6:32 mark of the second stanza before Shawn Pauly lit the lamp for the third-straight game to pull the Mavericks back within two before the break. Assists on Pauly's strike went to Tyler Elbrecht and Matt Robertson.

After going scoreless most of the third period, C.J. Eick cut the deficit in half with his second score of the year, first as a Maverick, on a shot from the point that found its way past Jeremy Brodeur to produce the 3-2 final score.

The Mavericks and Americans meet once again on Saturday at 7:05.afid4186
