ECHL Adirondack Thunder

Gameday: Adirondack vs. Elmira

December 16, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Adirondack Thunder News Release

TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: Tonight is the fourth game this season between division rivals Adirondack and Elmira. The Thunder last faced the Jackals on November 28th as Adirondack collected a point but suffered a high scoring shootout loss 5-4. The Thunder will play at home for the ninth time this season before getting a much deserved break for the holidays. Adirondack and Elmira are both a single point behind Manchester for the lead in the East Division but the Thunder hold the upper hand with three games in hand.

FIELD(ING) OF DREAMS: Goaltender Drew Fielding recorded his second shutout in as many starts for the Thunder on Sunday against Manchester. Fielding turned away all 30 shots that came his way improving his season save percentage to .985, and will look to get a few more starts as Adirondack hits the heart of their season. The last ECHL goaltender to record a shutout in his first two ECHL starts was Laurent Broissoit of the Alaska Aces in 2013.

KIRKPATRICK IS KILLIN' IT: Thunder forward Michael Kirkpatrick scored his ninth goal of the season against Manchester on Sunday, giving him the team lead in that category. Kirkpatrick now has 17 points in 20 games played and has been one of the most impressive rookies in the ECHL. His points total is ninth among ECHL rookies, and he has built a streak of five points scored in his last four games on the road.

NO SILENCING SILENGO: The man who started the season on injured reserve on the Adirondack roster has become an integral part of the Adirondack forward corps. Jeff Silengo assisted on the first Thunder goal on Sunday to improve his points total to six in seven games played. He is also one of only five Thunder players on the active roster who have scored five or more goals this season.

ELMIRA GAINING ENERGY: The Elmira Jackals have won five straight and eight of their last ten games, and are now tied with the Thunder in the East Division, just one point behind the leading Manchester Monarchs. Forward Cason Hohmann has double digits in goals and assists as a rookie, and goaltender Niklas Lundstrum set a new ECHL season high by making 51 saves in a win against Norfolk on December 9th.

THE BACK-TO-BACK BUNCH: The Thunder have thrived this season on the second and third games in as many nights, compiling a 4-1-1 record to date on the second half of a back-to-back. Adirondack has also been victorious both times on the tail end of a three-in-three. With three points from a possible four in those situations over the weekend, the Thunder have now collected 13 of a possible 16 points in back-to-backs or the third game in three nights so far this season.
