Orlando Solar Bears News Release

ESTERO, Fla. - The Orlando Solar Bears (10-9-2-3), proud affiliate of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and the AHL's Toronto Marlies, dropped the third Wawa Sunshine Cup match to the Florida Everblades (19-9-0-0) by a 3-2 score in front of a crowd of 4,184 on Wednesday night at Germain Arena.

The Solar Bears and Everblades traded chances in the opening frame, and late in the stanza it appeared that Orlando had taken a lead when Christopher Clapperton had knocked the puck past Rasmus Tirronen, but by that point the green light had turned on indicating that time had expired.

Florida officially opened scoring in the second period when Corey Cowick fed the puck from the corner to Ethan Werek in the slot, and the Everblades forward fired a shot into the net past Ryan Massa at 1:17.

Eric Faille tied the score for Orlando when he blasted a one-timer from T.J. Foster past Rasmus Tirronen at 9:56 for his team-leading 12th of the season.

Evan Bloodoff gave Florida a 2-1 lead when he made his way across the crease and tucked a backhand underneath the pads of Massa at 16:32.

Werek extended the Everblades' lead to two goals when he completed a give-and-go play with Matt Willows at 1:02 of the third period, but Brady Vail would cut Orlando's deficit back to one goal after he jammed the puck past Tirronen shortly after emerging from the penalty box at 6:00.

The Solar Bears attempted to even the score late in the game by pulling Massa for an extra skater, but the Everblades ultimately hung on for the win.

Massa took the loss with 36 saves on 39 shots against; Tirronen earned the win with 27 saves on 29 shots against.
