SYRACUSE - The Binghamton Devils struggles against the Syracuse Crunch continued on Friday night in a 5-0 loss at the War Memorial.
Syracuse took a 1-0 lead on the power play 7:01 into the game on a wrap around by Alex Barre-Boulet. After the puck rolled by the net to Mackenzie Blackwood's left, Barre-Boulet wrapped it around to the right leg pad and slipped it in for his ninth of the year with assists from Cameron Gaunce and Carter Verhaeghe.
Mitchell Stephens recorded his second goal of the year on a back hand over the right leg pad of a diving Blackwood to his right. The goal came at 9:40 of the first period with helpers from Verhaeghe and Gaunce and the Crunch took a two-goal lead into the first intermission, along with a 19-2 shot advantage.
Verhaeghe recorded his third point of the game with his ninth goal of the year to give the Crunch a 3-0 lead 12:37 into the middle period. Verhaeghe's shot beat Blackwood top shelf with assists from Stephens and Barre-Boulet.
The Devils fell behind 4-0 as Cory Conachar extended his point streak to 12 games with his 11th goal of the year. Andy Andreoff fed Conachar on a two-on-one rush and the one timer sailed by the glove of Blackwood for the four-goal lead after two periods. The Crunch held a 28-8 shot advantage heading into the third period.
Dennis Yan added a goal for the Crunch in the third period for a 5-0 win. Blackwood stopped 27 in the loss while Ingram picked up his second shutout of the year over the Devils, denying all 18 he faced.
The Devils are back home tomorrow for Teddy Bear Toss Night against the Utica Comets at 7:05 p.m. Fans can get two tickets and a teddy bear to throw on the ice for charity when the Devils score their first goal for just $35. CLICK HERE
