Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
PENSACOLA, Fla. (Nov. 26, 2016) - The Pensacola Ice Flyers (4-5-3) were powered by a four goal and one assist performance by Louis Belisle en route to an 8-2 thrashing of the Huntsville Havoc (9-4-0) on Saturday night inside the Pensacola Bay Center.
It didn't take nearly as long as last night to figure out Havoc goalie Tyler Steel. With Huntsville's Jeff Jones in the box for tripping, Jesse Stoughton put the puck into the net 9:24 into the first period. Brandon Lubin and Louis Belisle assisted on the extra man goal.
The second period belonged to Belisle. He started his domination a mere 14 seconds in with a goal that was assisted Lubin and Josh Cousineau. 39 seconds later, Belisle flew down the right wing boards and fired a quick wrist show past Steel. Austin McKay had the only assist on that goal. Belisle completed the natural hat trick exactly 40 seconds later and this goal was assisted by Myles McCauley and McKay. Huntsville was able to get one back with a long shot by Nolan Kaiser that redirected off Jordan Wood's stick to make it 4-1 just 4:23 into the second period.
Less than a minute after that Huntsville goal, McCauley got his first goal as an Ice Flyer with a laser of a shot from the top of the slot just inside the blue line. Nick McParland and McKay assisted on the goal that came 5:08 into the second. Belisle reestablished his claim on the period by scoring his fourth goal in 6:02 of game time. This one had Brent Tate and Kyle Shapiro picking up the helpers.
Early in the third period, Ice Flyers goalie John McLean was crashed into and McLean had to leave the game due to injury. He was replaced by Matt Zenzola. The Ice Flyers' lead stretched to 7-1 thanks to a goal by John Gustafsson. Gustafsson skated through the left wing circle and fired a shot into the top right of the Havoc goal. That goal came 5:07 into the third and was assisted by McKay and McParland. Andrew Schmit made it 8-2 at the 8:42 mark and Corey Banfield had the only assist on the goal. In a weird sequence of events. Dylan Nowakowski charged Zenzola and in the process knocked the puck into the net. Nowakowski was awarded the goal while also being assessed a minor for charging.
McLean stopped 25 of the 26 shots he faced and picked up the win to improve to 2-1-0 on the season. Zenzola stopped four of the five shots he faced.
The Ice Flyers will be back in action next Friday when they host the Mississippi RiverKings on Friday, Dec. 2, at 7:05 p.m. inside the Pensacola Bay Center. It will be the first half of a home-and-home with Mississippi and it will be Teddy Bear Toss Night. Fans are encouraged to bring a new stuffed animal and throw it on to the ice after the after the Ice Flyers score their first goal of the game.
