Knoxville Ice Bears News Release

Knoxville, TN- Kyle McNeil scored the eventual game-winner in the second period. Brian Billet made 38 saves and Knoxville held off Roanoke 2-1 to improve to 4-0 over the Rail Yard Dawgs this season. The Ice Bears' league-leading penalty killing unit made the difference going 5-5 on the night, including a 5-on-3 for Roanoke late in the second.

The Ice Bears struck first when Spencer Metcalfe fired a snap shot from the left point past the glove of Ryan de Melo at 4:58 of the opening period. The goal was Metcalfe's first as an Ice Bears as he made his return from a two-game suspension. McNeil extended the lead when he poked a loose rebound into the net at 8:50 of the second. Roanoke responded 57 seconds later with a goal from Massimo Lamacchia to cut the lead back to one. Tyler Gjurich slid the puck from the slot to the side of the crease where Lamacchia chipped it past the blocker of Billet. Billet was making only his second start of the season and completed his first full game. He stopped all 21 shots he faced at Huntsville on Thursday before exiting the game in the second period. The win extends Knoxville's point streak to three games. The Ice Bears will head to Evansville next weekend for a two-game series against the Thunderbolts. Knoxville's next home game will be on Friday, December 16 when the Mississippi RiverKings visit the Coliseum for the first time this year. The Knoxville Ice Bears head on a three-week road trip kicking off on Saturday, when they travel to Mississippi to take on the RiverKings. The game will be broadcast live at the Ice Bears new road game location - Crown and Goose in the Old City. Puck drop is at 8:30 - the game can be seen live on SPHLLIVE.com.
