Macon Mayhem News Release
MACON, GA- The Macon Mayhem played the Columbus Cottonmouths on Saturday night in a quest for their 10th straight victory, and they skated away with a dominant 5-1 win.
There was no scoring in the first period, but the Mayhem offense caught fire early in the second period. The team scored three goals in the first five minutes of the period. Leading the scoring was Daniel Gentzler, who scored on a battle in front of the net. Cottonmouths' goaltender Brandon Jaeger made the original save, but Gentzler was able to whack it home. Stephen Pierog got loose on a breakaway three minutes later and put the puck under the left pad of Jaeger to give Macon a 2-0 lead. Just 44 seconds later, John Siemer scored on a similar play to Gentzler's to give the Mayhem a 3-0 lead. That score would hold for the rest of the second period.
There was no scoring in the first twelve minutes of the third period until Derek Gingera scored at the backdoor to make it a 3-1 game. Macon would answer, however, with two quick goals. With 6:57 left, John Siemer scored his second of the game to make it 4-1, and then Collin MacDonald scored just 26 seconds later off of a great pass from Jake Trask to give Macon the 5-1 lead. That score would hold the rest of the game, and the Mayhem came away with the 5-1 victory
