KALAMAZOO, MI- After a one-sided loss the night before, the Kalamazoo Wings showed no signs of distress as they controlled the play from start to finish in a 5-3 victory over the Allen Americans on Sunday..

Early in the first period and displaying no elements of fatigue from playing their third game in as many days, the Kalamazoo Wings struck first with less than five minutes of the first period having passed. Tyler Biggs created space on a power play and ripped a shot from the right circle that flew under the blocker of Jamie Murray for his second goal of the season.

Allen didn't take long to even things up, as Tanner Eberle's long wrist shot through traffic beat Joel Martin over the glove at the 8:50 mark, just four minutes after falling behind.

It took Kalamazoo only 1:48 to regain their lead, while scoring their second power play goal of the game. For the second consecutive night, Charlie Vasaturo wired a shot from distance that found the back of the goal for his third of the season.

Just 28 seconds later, and with everything continuing to gel for Kalamazoo in the first, Lane Schiedl's try was stopped by Murray, but Tyler Shattock fought through a log jam in front and tapped in a rebound to build a 3-1 Wings lead.

Not bowing out without a rally, Allen pulled within one after J.P. LaFontaine's first goal of the season. The Americans' forward was sprung for a breakaway after a stretch feed from Rick Pinkston connected at the Kalamazoo blue line, and LaFontaine's low wrist shot sailed past Martin and made it 3-2.

After five goals between Kalamazoo and Allen were scored in the first, both teams kept the high pace into the second period. It was Kalamazoo who added to their total in the fading minutes of the frame, after Shattock handled a missed shot off the boards from Guillaume Rioux-Legault and slipped it past Murray for his second tally of the night.

Carrying the momentum into the third, Kalamazoo took just 1:42 before padding their lead to three goals. Biggs gained the Allen line and drove a thunderous slap shot from the top of the circles that crawled through the legs of Murray and crossed the line.

Once again showing resiliency while trailing, the Americans capitalized after a Kalamazoo turnover, and Travis Brown jolted a shot into the goal, slicing the Wings lead to two goals with nine minutes remaining.

Even facing an extra attacker in the closing minutes, the Wings defense withstood the late pressure from the Americans, and earned a 5-3 win on home ice.
