WHERE WE STAND The Monarchs look to close out the weekend in second place in the North Division of the Eastern Conference. Entering today's game, the Monarchs (7 pts.) sit three points behind division leader, Adirondack, and tied with the Reading Royals.
LEADING THE WAY There is a four-way logjam at the top of the Monarchs scoring list, with Ward leading the way with three goals on the young season. The five assists from Leitner and Kolomatis lead the team.
KILLING IT The Monarchs have been stingy on the penalty kill, fending off 95.2% of all shorthanded chances they have faced thus far this season. Manchester has conceded only one goal away from SNHU Arena for a 90% success rate, and have been a perfect 11-for-11 on home ice. Entering today's game, the Monarchs possess the ECHL's second-best overall penalty killing unit.
LEADING BY EXAMPLE Monarchs captain, David Kolomatis, has quietly jumped to the top of the ECHL leaderboard for defenseman scoring. The Monarchs skipper currently sits in a second-place tie amongst blueliners with six points, and has scored at least one point in both games against Cincinnati this weekend.
FIRST TO SCORE... Although it's early in the season, only three teams across the ECHL have a losing record when lighting the lamp first. The Monarchs and Cyclones are not part of those three, and both carry a 100% winning percentage when netting the game's first tally.
START IN THE SECOND? The second period has been the most productive for the Monarchs this season in terms of scoring, as the team has netted 10 of their 24 (42%) regulation and overtime goals in the middle frame. In contrast, Cincinnati has scored only two goals in the second period, which calculates to 18% of their overall scoring.
