LAST TIME OUT:

Last night, the Florida Everblades spoiled the Swamp Rabbits Home Opener and walked away with a 6-3 decision at Bon Secours Wellness Arena. The Everblades remain unbeaten at 3-0-0-0 to start the 2020-21 regular season. Patrick Harper bookended the scoring for Florida, tallying at 4:51 of the first period, and later scoring the empty net goal to complete the stats line. Karch Bachman and Greg Meireles both scored for Greenville to put the home team in front, 2-1 in the second period, but Florida rallied for four unanswered. Cameron Hebig evened the count at 2-2 on the power play at 17:52 of the second period. Cole Smith, Michael Huntebrinker and Tanner Jeannot all converted in the first 10 minutes of the third period to stretch a 5-2 Florida lead. Nick Poehling brought the Swamp Rabbits closer at 16:14 before Harper's empty net goal.

NICE TO MEET YOU, MEIRELES:

Last night marked the professional debut for Greg Meireles and he wasted little time to make a positive impact. Meireles recorded the primary helper on Karch Bachman's goal at 2:27 of the second period, and followed with his first pro strike at 9:21. After Ben Finkelstein wrapped around the net, Meireles buried the rebound past Florida goaltender Cam Johnson. The 21-year-old forward played parts of the last five seasons with the OHL's Kitchener Rangers before turning pro this season. The forward is a 6th round draft pick from the 2019 NHL Draft by the Florida Panthers.

BACHMAN FINDS THE BACK OF THE NET:

Karch Bachman opened the scoring last night for Greenville and earned his first professional goal in his third pro game. The former standout at Miami University of Oxford, Ohio beat Florida goaltender Cam Johnson five-hole last night in the second period to tie the game at 1-1. In 143 NCAA games at Miami, Bachman totaled 69 points (29 goals, 40 assists).

POEHLING HITS PAYDIRT:

Nick Poehling cut Greenville's deficit from 5-2 to 5-3 last night in the third period with his first professional goal. Poehling played the last four seasons along side twin brother Jack with St. Cloud State University. The former Husky tallied 66 points (25 goals, 41 assists) across 143 collegiate games from 2016-2020. Before NCAA, the Lakeville, Minnesota native also spent parts of two season's playing for the USHL's Green Bay Gamblers.

EARLY SEASON TRENDS:

Greenville has out shot their opponent in all three games this season...The Swamp Rabbits have allowed the game's first goal in all three matchups this season...Samuel Jardine and Ben Finkelstein have both recorded points in each game this season...The Swamp Rabbits power play unit was held off the scoreboard last night for the first time this season...After beginning the season 7-for-7 on the penalty kill, Greenville has killed 5-of-their-last-10 penalties.
