DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers (1-0) look to make it two in a row against the Green Bay Blizzard (1-1) in the home opener this Saturday, March 9. Kickoff is set for 7:05 p.m. CST in Wells Fargo Arena.
The Barnstormers are coming off their first victory this past Sunday at Quad City. They beat the Steamwheelers 53-39 in a game that never saw a lead change after Iowa scored the first touchdown. Quarterback Daquan Neal was almost unstoppable, completing 10 passes for 154 yards and five touchdowns. Receiver Ryan Balentine was his number one target, catching five passes for 84 yards and three touchdowns. The biggest play of the game came when the Steamwheelers had momentum late in the fourth quarter, cutting the lead down to 46-39. Defensive back Tyrell Pearson took the ensuing kickoff to the end zone, putting the game out of reach and sealing the victory.
Iowa will face a tough challenge in the Green Bay Blizzard, who won their first game this season in a thrilling game with the Nebraska Danger last Friday. Quarterback Leonorris Footman scored his fifth rushing touchdown of the night with 25 seconds remaining to give his team the 53-52 lead. With 10 seconds remaining, defensive back Bakari Triggs intercepted a pass to seal the victory for the Blizzard.
The Barnstormers will be celebrating the 2018 United Bowl championship this Saturday. Before the game, the banner will be dropped in Wells Fargo Arena and members of the 2018 team will be recognized.
