TONIGHT
The Bakersfield Condors open a four-game homestand against the Stockton Heat in the 10th and final matchup of the season between the two teams. After dropping the opening six games in regulation to the Heat, Bakersfield has won three straight, including a 6-4 win on Saturday in Stockton.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
Bakersfield jumped out to a 2-0 lead and killed off eight of 10 power plays en route to 6-4 win over Stockton on Saturday night at Stockton Arena. Rookies D Caleb Jones (1g-1a), RW David Gust (1g-1a), and LW Joe Gambardella (2g-0a) each recorded multi-point games. The win secured three of a possible four points (1-0-1) on the weekend for the Condors who have points in three straight road games (2-0-1).
Stockton played twice since the 6-4 setback to the Condors on Saturday. On Sunday, the Heat erased a 3-0 deficit and beat San Diego at home, 5-4, in a shootout. On Wednesday, the Heat fell behind 2-0 and suffered a 3-1 loss to Ontario to slip to fifth in the Pacific Division.
PLAYOFF PICTURE
The Condors begin the weekend nine points behind Ontario/Texas who are tied for third in the Pacific Division playoff race. Bakersfield has a game in hand on the Reign and will face Ontario four more times this season. With 16 games left, the Condors would need 23 points to keep pace with the last qualifying team average from the past two seasons.
CONDORS NOTES
RW Patrick Russell scored his 9th goal of the season on Saturday surpassing his goal output from last season. He has 9g-8a-17pts through 52 games this season. His next point will surpass his rookie total when he had 17 points (8g-9a) in 68 games... C Josh Currie's next point will tie his career high as well as he has 35 points (16g-19a) in 52 games this season. Last year, the PEI native had 36 points (22g-14a) in 67 games... C Colin Larkin and D Logan Day, who were each signed to ATO contracts this week, were both Players of the Year in their respective collegiate conferences this year.
HEAT NOTES
D Rasmus Andersson has points in three straight games (0g-3a) and has 10 points (3g-7a) in 10 games... Without goaltenders Jon Gillies and David Rittich, the Heat have used three different goaltenders (Mason McDonald / Tyler Parsons / Ryan Faragher) over the past eight games... The Heat are 6-2-0 in their last eight games... Stockton is 13-9-2-2 on the road... C Andrew Mangiapane is t-14th in the AHL scoring race with 46 points (21g-25a) in 39 games.
