Syracuse Crunch News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Hershey Bears scored late in the third period to top the Syracuse Crunch, 2-1, and sweep the two-game season series tonight at the War Memorial Arena.
The loss snaps the Crunch's seven-game point streak and moves the team to 35-19-3-3 on the season.
Goaltender Peter Budaj stopped 16-of-18 shots in his Crunch debut, while Pheonix Copley recorded the win with a 29-save performance. Both teams scored on the man-advantage, with Syracuse going 1-for-4 and Hershey at 1-for-5.
After a scoreless first period, the Bears broke the stalemate on the power play 2:51 into middle stanza. Dustin Gazley fired a wrister from the top of the right circle that Budaj stopped with the left pad, but Tyler Graovac was waiting at the post to chip in the rebound. Wayne Simpson tallied the secondary helper.
The Crunch knotted the game five minutes later with a power-play goal of their own. Mat Bodie sent a no-look feed for Mathieu Joseph to snipe home all alone at the right faceoff dot. Gabriel Dumont extended his point streak with an assist.
With 6:38 remaining in the third period, Hershey regained their lead. Aaron Ness came streaking down the left wing and picked the near corner for the eventual game-winner off a pass from Graovac.
The Crunch begin the first half of a home-and-home weekend series against the Rochester Americans tomorrow at 7 p.m.
Single game tickets and packages are on sale now and can be purchased in person at the Crunch office located inside the War Memorial Arena at 800 S. State St. in Syracuse, by calling the office at 315-473-4444.
