Game Preview: at Wolves
March 6, 2022 - NBA G League (G League)
Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
All-Time Record: 35-45
Last Meeting: 94-106 on 1/6/22 in Sioux Falls
Streak: L4
Every game in March is an important one, especially in the thick of a playoff chase, but the matchup today with the Iowa Wolves has the feel of the most important game to date for the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
After winning three of its last four games, Sioux Falls sits just 1.5 games out of the Western Conference playoffs. The Iowa Wolves, who have lost two-of-three in March, sit in the fourth-seed, two games above the Skyforce.
Sioux Falls is looking for its first three-game road winning streak of the season, as they defeated the OKC Blue and Memphis Hustle last weekend. The team is also looking to avoid being swept by the Iowa Wolves at Wells Fargo Arena for the first time since 2012-13. The Wolves swept a two-game series to start the 2021 Showcase Cup on Nov. 6 and 8 earlier this season.
The last time the Skyforce defeated was Dec. 14, 2019, when Jarrett Jack powered Sioux Falls to a 98-95 victory. Jack posted 28 points and five assists in the victory.
With DJ Stewart's NBA Call-Up to the San Antonio Spurs as a two-way player and both two-way players (Javonte Smart and Kyle Guy) with the Miami HEAT, the Skyforce needed to find a different formula to victory. They did so on Friday, defeating the Texas Legends 110-92, where six players scored in double figures. Mario Chalmers (14 points on 4-8 3PA, 13 assists and seven rebounds) and Chandler Hutchison (12 points, nine rebounds and eight assists) both flirted with triple doubles in the winning effort.
After the quick trip to Des Moines, the Skyforce host DJ Stewart and the Austin Spurs on Mar 10-11. Austin currently holds the final Western Conference playoff spot with a 9-9 record. The Wolves travel to Birmingham to face the Squadron, who at 10-10, sit just behind Iowa in the fifth-seed and a half-game back.
