Both the Mississippi Surge and the Ice Flyers are fresh off of a win over the Louisiana IceGators. The Flyers defeated the Gators 5-3 on Thursday before having an off day on Friday and the Surge hosted Louisiana last night and beat them 5-0. Tonight's game between the Surge and Ice Flyers will be the 9th meeting of the season with series knotted at 4 wins each. The last meeting came on February 10th when the Surge came out on top at home 3-1. Scoring the only goal that night for Pensacola was Matthew Robertson.
The Ice Flyers and Surge currently have identical records and are tied at 45 points, 1 behind 4th place Louisiana. The Ice Flyers have a road record of 9-10-3 while Mississippi is 11-7-2 at home.

PENSACOLA - The IceFlyers are looking to get another win after snapping their losing streak Thursday. Corey Milan's overall record now stands at 8-10-3 with a 3.47 goals against average and a 0.873 save percentage. With the Ice Flyers, Milan has a 4-4-1 record, 2.85 GAA, and 0.896 SV%. Backing up Milan is the recently acquired Jesse Kallechy who has a record of 6-8-2, 3.55 GAA, and a 0.894 SV% in 18 games; all with the Knoxville Ice Bears. Jordan Chong leads the team in scoring with 40 points and Chris Wilson leads in goals with 20. Chong still leads the team in assists with 24.
The Ice Flyers' power play is still 4th best in the league at 17.62%, scoring 34 power play goals while only giving up 2 shorthanded goals. Pensacola's penalty kill sits 6th in the league at 81.53%. The Ice Flyers have given up 29 power play goals against while managing to score 5 shorthanded goals.
The Ice Flyers' next game isn't until Friday February 24th when the Columbus Cottonmouths come to Pensacola for the first time in 2012.
MISSISSIPPI - The Surge were on fire last night as the shutout the Louisiana IceGators and their penalty kill was excellent as they killed off all 6 of Louisiana's power plays. Manning the nets, the Surge have Kiefer Smiley and Nick Eno. Smiley has a record of 15-6-2, a 2.55 GAA, and a 0.905 SV% while Eno has a record of 5-11-0, a 3.06 GAA, and a 0.896 SV%. Mississippi's leading scorer remains Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn with 44 points. Versteeg-Lytwyn also holds a big lead in goals with 21 and he holds the team lead in assists with 23.
Mississippi's power play is 6th in the SPHL at 16.11% scoring 29 power play goals on 180 chances. The Surge's power play has allowed only 1 shorthanded goal, fewest in the SPHL. Their penalty kill is 5th in the league at 82.21% with 37 power play goals against. The Surge have managed only 2 shorthanded goals.
The Surge will head north the Southaven, MS to take on cross state rivals the Mississippi RiverKings tomorrow.
