Augusta RiverHawks News Release

The Augusta RiverHawks bounced back into the win column Saturday night as they defeated the Fayetteville FireAntz 4-1 at the James Brown Arena. The RiverHawks were propelled to the victory on the strength of their power play, as they converted three of their seven chances with the man-advantage.

RiverHawks' defenseman Ed Snetsinger led the way for the RiverHawks once again playing a stellar two-way game. Snetsinger scored the RiverHawks' first two goals and added an assist later in the game. The three points nudged Snetsinger into the Southern Professional Hockey League's top 15 scorers this season.

Augusta's Captain Matt Auffrey had a bounce-back game of his own, following up a disappointing game Friday night with a dominant effort Saturday night. He set up Snetsinger's second goal with a beautiful pass across the slot that left no doubt, and scored the RiverHawks' third with a big slap shot from the point.

The RiverHawks received a solid 60-minutes in goal as Jon Olthuis made 24 saves to keep his team in control throughout most of the game. Few of Olthuis' saves would be considered highlight-reel quality, but his calm, poised play seemed to help the rest of his team play similarly.

The FireAntz looked to be on the right track early in the game as their star forward Chris Leveille gave his team the lead in the first period. However, despite a good effort from goaltender Mike Brown and a team-high five shots from Leveille, the FireAntz would be unable to muster any more offense against the RiverHawks.

With the win the RiverHawks' remain atop the SPHL standings enjoying a seven point lead over the Knoxville Ice Bears and a ten point lead over the Columbus Cottonmouths. Earlier this week the RiverHawks clinched a playoff seed for the second season in a row.

The RiverHawks are back in action on Phoenix Refrigeration Ice at the James Brown Arena Sunday, February 19th as the RiverHawks play the Knoxville Ice Bears. The puck drops at 4:35pm.Tickets for the game are available through the RiverHawks' office and the James Brown Arena box office.
