Today's Preview: The Intimidators (A, White Sox) take the field for the second game of this 4-game series against the Grasshoppers (A, Marlins). Kannapolis sends Chris Freudenberg to the mound for his final outing of the season against Greensboro's Kyle Fischer. The Intimidators are looking for their first home win against the Grasshoppers, which swept a 4-game series in June and have won all five of their games at CMC-NorthEast Stadium this season.

Intimidating Starter: Chris Freudenberg, 21, makes his sixth start with Kannapolis and 15th of the year. He is coming off a win at West Virginia on Aug. 24, limiting the Power to a run on four hits over 6.0 innings in his second quality start with Kannapolis. The left-hander has struck out 25 batters in 24.0 innings, including a season-high seven strikeouts in consecutive starts on Aug. 13 against Lexington and Aug. 19 against Asheville. Freudenberg struck out seven Tourists in a row to end his outing two starts ago. Freudenberg was promoted from Advanced Rookie Great Falls to Kannapolis on Aug. 1 after going 3-3 with a 3.17 ERA (17 ER/48.1 IP) in nine games (nine starts) for Great Falls. Overall this season, he is 5-4 with a 3.73 ERA (30 ER/72.1 IP) in 14 starts. He is in his second year with the White Sox after being selected in the eighth round of the June 2013 draft out of South Mountain Community College in Phoenix. Last season with Advanced Rookie Bristol, the lefty went 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA in nine games (six starts) in the Appalachian League. He graduated from Saguaro High School in Scottsdale, Ariz., in 2011.

Hoppers Hurler: Kyle Fischer, 23, makes his second start and eighth appearance of the season for the Grasshoppers. He won his first start, tossing 5.0 innings and allowing one run on five hits at Lakewood on Aug. 24. Fischer faced Kannapolis out of the bullpen on Aug. 15, and he tossed 3.0 scoreless, hitless innings with two walks and three strikeouts. The Marlins selected Fischer in the 30th round of the June 2014 draft out of St. Cloud State, and he made his pro debut with the GCL Marlins, posting a 11.12 ERA in nine relief appearances in rookie ball.

Bassitt to the Bigs: Former Intimidators relief pitcher Chris Bassitt becomes the 80th player to go from Kannapolis to the Major Leagues since 1995 and 56th since the Intimidators became a White Sox affiliate in 2001. The White Sox purchased his contract from Double-A Birmingham to have him start the second game of their doubleheader against the Tigers today. Bassitt, the White Sox 16th round selection in the June 2011 First-Year Player Draft, appeared out of the bullpen in 16 games with Class A Kannapolis during his professional debut season in 2011. He was 3-1 with a 1.82 ERA (5 ER/24.2 IP) with 29 strikeouts, holding SAL hitters to a .202 average.

Last Time Out: Greensboro scored three runs in the fourth inning and never looked back on its way to beating Kannapolis, 7-2, on Friday. J.T. Riddle drove in two runs on a fourth inning base hit, and an error brought in the third run. Domingo German tossed 5.0 scoreless frames with seven strikeouts to earn the win, while Intimidators spot starter Jose Brito was tagged with the loss. Kannapolis put together a 2-out rally to pull within a run in the seventh, highlighted by a pair of 2-out doubles by Chevy Clarke and T.J. Williams, but the Grasshoppers scored four runs with two outs in the ninth off Brad Salgado to pull away.

Danny Draws Walks: First baseman Danny Hayes drew his league-leading 72nd walk on Friday. He went 1-3 in the game, upping his on-base percentage to .385, the fourth-best in the SAL. He also ranks tied for fourth in the league with 33 doubles and fifth with 75 RBI.

Olympian On Base: Eddy Alvarez, who in February won an Olympic silver medal in short-track speed-skating, extended his on-base streak to 15 games since joining the Intimidators from the AZL White Sox on Aug. 11. He was held hitless for just the second time in 15 games, going 0-3 and lowering his average to a still-red-hot .459 (28-61) in the Class A SAL. Prior to signing with the White Sox in June, Alvarez last played baseball while at Salt Lake CC in 2011.

Salt Lake Teammates: Tanner Banks made his Class A debut Friday with 2.1 scoreless innings, two hits and two strikeouts for Kannapolis. With the AZL White Sox, he went 1-1 with a 1.64 ERA (4 ER/22 IP) with 31 strikeouts before earning a promotion on Thursday. Banks played two seasons at University of Utah after spending his first two years at Salt Lake Community College where he was teammates with infielder Eddy Alvarez.
