Tie-Breaking Run in Eighth Sends Rome to Win

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves (31-37) defeated the Savannah Sand Gnats (40-28) by a score of 4-3 on Saturday night in front of 4,049 fans.

The Sand Gnats took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Victor Cruzado drew a walk and would later cross on a wild pitch. Rome tied the contest in the bottom of the frame when Carlos Franco singled and would later score on a wild pitch. Rome notched a single run in the fourth on a throwing error that plated Joey Meneses and another single run in the seventh on an RBI single by Cody Livesay for the 3-1 lead.

Savannah rallied in the eighth when Luis Guillorme and Dominic Smith both walked and later scored on a fielding error to tie the game at three apiece. The Braves would not be denied and reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the inning when Jake Schrader singled, moved to third on a Meneses single and came home on a wild pitch for the 4-3 score. Rome's bullpen would hold off Savannah in the ninth for the final 4-3 victory.

Richard Tate (5-5) gets the win while John Micone (2-3) gets the loss. Braves starter Steve Janas had a strong outing working six innings allowing just two hits and one run.
