Borden: Allowed 1 R on 8 H over 5.1 IP in 8/24 L vs. KAN w/ 9 SO and 0 BB (7-1 KAN)

THE LEAD OFF: The Power bested the Asheville Tourists on Friday night at Appalachian Power Park 7-3. West Virginia raced out to the early lead with three runs in the third on an Edwin Espinal RBI single followed by a Reese McGuire two-run blast. The Power would tack two more runs on in the fifth keyed by an Espinal solo home run and then two more in the sixth when Maximo Rivera and Austin Meadows singled home runs. Asheville would tally two in the seventh on Cesar Galvez and Correlle Prime RBI hits, but it would not be enough. Jake Burnette earned the victory while Zach Jemiola was charged with the loss.

FINAL TOUR: The West Virginia Power and Asheville Tourists will matchup for the final series between the two this weekend. West Virginia holds the season series advantage at 6-5 with the teams having split a four-game set at McCormick field last. Asheville leads the all-time series since 2005 50-40 and the Power are 19-25 all-time at Appalachian Power Park against the Tourists.

JONES HONORED: Power shortstop JaCoby Jones was named the South Atlantic League's top shortstop on Thursday. Jones, a 2013 Pirates third-round draft pick, is hitting a team-high .292 over 114 games. Jones has mashed 22 home runs, two shy of tying the club single-season record, and has driven in 69 runs this year. Wilmer Difo of Hagerstown grabbed league MVP honors while the Suns' Lucas Giolito was tapped as top pitcher and prospect.

SEVENTH HEAVEN: Edwin Espinal drove in seven runs in Thursday's extra inning win over Lexington. It was the first time a Power player has driven in seven since Erik Huber on May 14, 2009 against Delmarva.

HERRERA GETS THE CALL: Former Power infielder Dilson Herrera was promoted from double-A Binghampton to the New York Mets on Thursday and is now the 42nd Power player to reach the bigs. The second baseman played 109 games with West Virginia in 2013, posting a .265 average with 11 home runs and 56 runs batted in before being traded to the Mets in a deal for John Buck and Marlon Byrd. Herrera is the fifth former Power player to reach this season, joining Casey Sadler, Rudy Owens, Gregory Polanco and Zelous Wheeler.

WELCOME BACK: The Pittsburgh Pirates activated Power shortstop JaCoby Jones from the Disabled List on Thursday. Jones was named the League's top shortstop as well on Thursday and had been on the Disabled List since August 20 with illness. To make room for Jones, the Pirates placed Adam Landecker on the Power Disabled List. The Pirates also promoted pitcher Brett McKinney to Bradenton.

FLORIDA STATE SWEEP: Two members of West Virginia's 2013 squad were honored in the Florida State League on Tuesday night. Tyler Glasnow was named Florida State League Pitcher of the Year while Josh Bell was named the league's Player of the Year. Glasnow has posted a 12-5 record in Bradenton in 2014 with a 1.67 ERA over 118.1 innings with 148 strikeouts. Bell, currently with double-A Altoona, hit .335 in 84 games with the Marauders with nine home runs and 53 runs batted in.

POWER PROMO UPDATE- AUGUST 31: The Power battle the second-half Southern Division champ Asheville Tourists on Sunday, August 31 at Appalachian Power Park. Kids run the bases after the game with a postgame autograph session.

POWER POINTS: Of eight Pittsburgh Pirates prospects named to the Arizona Fall League on Tuesday, seven are former Power players. Josh Bell, Tyler Glasnow, Elias Diaz, Dan Gamache, Nick Kingham, Tom Harlan and Joely Rodriguez were all named to the Scottsdale Scorpions roster.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh was idle on Thursday. The Pirates host the Cincinnati Reds tonight at PNC Park ... Indianapolis edged Columbus 2-1.Casey Sadler earned the win, allowing one run over six innings ... Altoona snuck past Richmond 3-2. Bradenton bested Port Charlotte 5-3. Tyler Glasnow struck out nine in the Marauders win ... Jamestown clipped Mahoning Valley 2-1.
