GreenJackets' Losing Streak Continues

Augusta, GA--The Augusta GreenJackets (61-75) lost to the Charleston RiverDogs (70-68) on Saturday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium. This is the third game in a row the GreenJackets have to lost to an opponent, their ninth in the last 14 days. The final score was 4-2.

Charleston took an early lead with three runs scored in the second inning due to mistakes by the GreenJackets defense. A wild pitch by GreenJackets starting pitcher, Steven Messner, drove in the first run. A throwing error by Will Callaway allowed the final two runs of the inning to score.

The GreenJackets began to rally in the fifth inning with two runs scored. An RBI double by Will Callaway drove in both runs. Despite the effort, Charleston was quick to respond with a run scored in the top of the sixth on a bases loaded walk. Neither team scored after the sixth.

Charleston's relief pitcher, Jonathan Padilla (1-0), earned the win Saturday night. In four innings pitched, Padilla gave up four hits, two earned runs and struck out three batters. Charleston's closing pitcher, Eric Ruth, earned his seventh save of the season. Augusta's starting pitcher, Steven Messner (7-5) took the loss. In five and two-thirds innings pitched, Messner gave up six hits, two earned runs and struck out five batters.

The GreenJackets continue their final homestand on Sunday, August 31 against the Charleston RiverDogs. It's the final Junior 'Jackets game of the season.
