Aberdeen Drops The First Game Of The Series, 3-1

One night after the IronBirds erupted for 14 runs, that bats went quiet during the first game in Hudson Valley. Mike Yastrzemski accounted for the lone IronBirds' run with a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning. Hudson Valley scored two runs in the second inning and one in the fifth. John Alexander had an RBI double off the right field wall in the second inning to get things going for the Renegades. Aberdeen scored one run on seven hits while the Renegades scored three runs on eight hits.

Quality Outings

IronBirds' starting pitcher Janser Severino went six innings. He allowed seven hits, three runs (all earned), walked one and struck out one batter. Renegades' starter Ben Griset also pitched six innings. He gave up four hits, no runs, no walks and struck out seven IronBirds.

May I Have That Ball, Please?

Mike Yastrzemski's home run in the ninth inning was the first of his professional career. This past season at Vanderbilt University, Yastrzemski had three home runs and 43 RBIs. The IronBirds' outfielder now has the tem lead for batting average (.338), triples (2), slugging percentage (.500) and on-base percentage (.448) through 24 games played.

Close, But Not Close Enough

The IronBirds will get a chance to make up some ground in the standings in this series against the Renegades. Aberdeen is currently 2.5 games behind division-leading Hudson Valley. After tonight's contest the IronBirds hit the road again for two games against the Staten Island Yankees.

On the mound tonight...

LHP Mitch Horacek will get the start for the IronBirds tonight. In his last outing, Horacek pitched against the Jamestown Jammers. He picked up the win as Aberdeen won, 8-3. He went 6 innings, allowing four hits, one run (one earned), walked one, and struck out four. He will be opposed by Hudson Valley's RHP Jamie Schultz. Schultz is 1-1 on the season with a 2.89 ERA. In his last outing, Schultz went three innings, allowing three hits, two runs, three walks, and ringing up two strikeouts. Schultz will be making his tenth appearance of the season and has allowed 7 runs and fifteen walks in 18.2 innings pitched.
