Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

BURLINGTON, VT- For the second night in a row, the Tri-City ValleyCats offense was quieted by the pitching of the Vermont Lake Monsters, as a 4-0 shutout handed the 'Cats their second straight loss.

Taking advantage of run-scoring opportunities was an issue for the 'Cats on Saturday night. An 0-for-9 performance with runners in scoring position lead to nine runners left on base. The five hits came from five different players, with only a Chan Moon triple and Ronnie Mitchell double going for extra bases.

Vermont scored two runs in the fourth off of Tri-City starter Adrian Houser (0-2), which proved to be enough run support. Shortstop Luis Baez singled home one run, and a wild pitch from Houser scored the other.

In the seventh inning, a Tanner Bushue wild pitch was wild enough to score two runs, putting the Lake Monsters up 4-0. Bushue allowed two runs in his two innings of relief work.

Kyle Finnegan (2-1) picked up his second win of the season in a dominating outing versus the league-leading ValleyCats. The righty went six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and two walks, while striking out four. Kayvon Bahramzadeh went three innings in relief of Finnegan for his first save of the season.

It was just the third time in 38 games in which Tri-City was shutout. All four have come in 4-0 defeats. This second straight loss marks just the third all time season the 'Cats have lost two straight. In five games so far at Centennial Field this season, Vermont is 4-1 against the ValleyCats. The 'Cats finished their five-game road trip at 2-3. They still have a 3.5 game lead over Lowell in the Stedler Division.

The ValleyCats will return home against the Connecticut Tigers on Sunday for a two-game series. RHP Andrew Thurman (1-0, 2.66) will make his third start of the year for the 'Cats and will be opposed by LHP Joe Mantiply (0-1, 1.53) for the Tigers.
